Interactive Map Hanseatic City of Demmin

The former and present Hanseatic and district town of Demmin has about 13,000 inhabitants. It is located in the North-German Lowlands, in the very heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where the Peene, Trebel and Tollense rivers meet. Demmin nestles in scenicly charming surroundings which include acres and acres of nature reserve, nature conservancies and the "Mecklenburgian Switzerland and Lake Kummerow" Nature Park.

Hansestadt DemminAs its membership in the Hanseatic League (1283-1607) was proven, the district town decided to join the Hanseatic League of the modern age in 1992. The old granaries in the Peene harbour bear witness to the town's importance as a Hanseatic town.

The tower of St Bartholomew's Church, with a height of 95.8 m and completely made of bricks, can be seen from afar. It was restored in neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. Further places to visit are the Church of the Rosary Queen, handed over to the Catholic community in 1914/15, the more than 100-year-old water tower, which today houses an observatory, and the only remaining gate of original 27 towers and 4 gates on the town wall, the Luisen-Gate.
